Egger Liaison Group

 

The Sandhoe Council Liaison Group met with Egger UK Ltd senior staff on 10th January 2008.  A report of this meeting is given below.

 

The Council are anxious to share resident’s concerns and members of the parish who have any comments or suggestions to put to the Parish Council please send these to the Clerk.

Report from John Pennie of the meeting with Egger 10th January 2008

Meeting attended by five representatives from Sandhoe - Robert Macfarlane the Chairman of the Parish Council, John Pennie Vice Chairman and Parish Councillor with special brief for Egger matters ( in the chair); Bill Grigg the Clerk to the PC; and Neil and Jean Fearon District and County Councillors. There is a realistic timetable for addressing all major issues as follows:-
1 Silencer for the main noise creating equipment to be fitted by end Feb 2008. 2 If it works the same upgrade will also enable the machine to operate overall in a quieter way (the more fully it is loaded the less it rumbles and bangs.) 3 The more efficiently it works the lower the need for 24 hour working and it might be switched off completely 6 hours in every 24 once it is working really well and taking a greater log-load . 4 All lorries now fitted with HSE approved flashing lights that switch on when reversing, rather than reversing sirens wailing. The only time the sirens wail is if the bulb in the light fails, but spare bulbs now available from the site cabin even at 3 in the morning. 5 Old WESP chimney to be down by April , possibly sooner because it is valuable to the dismantler . Old site clear by end August. 6 Egger by no means rule out cash contribution to costs of trees to plant on Beaufront Castle and Allendale land to screen much of the Works from Oakwood 12 months a year. 7 On advice from their lawyers they will only meet with representatives from Sandhoe Parish and District/County Council on regular basis , but they prepared to meet on one off basis with residents as a group if there is a very hot issue not resolved by any other means. 8 All sawdust now under cover 9 Our next meeting with Egger is 4pm 27th March. A date chosen to occur after their deadlines for fitting the silencer have passed.
