1 Tree screen

The meeting noted with sincere thanks that the £18,000 contribution to the costs of tree and hedge screening at various sites in Sandhoe Parish had been duly received and the work in planting the screens was well under way.

2 Old Plant

It was reported that Egger expect the last of the old plant to have been dismantled and sent off site by the end of April 2009. Only one silo remains at present.

3 Log Handling

Planning permission was granted and the log handling plant is being tested and commissioned with a view to handover  after the final Health and Safety sign off . This is expected late April. Egger are fully confident that it will work well and definitely within the required sound emission limits

4 Operating Hours

Egger expects that the operating hours will remain as they are at present for the foreseeable future i.e. no regular through the night working is likely.

5 New Building

The planning application and ancillary related regulatory applications are progressing but not at breakneck speed. It is anticipated that notwithstanding the imminent disappearance of Tynedale Council, the key officers with day to day experience  of Egger planning matters will remain in post  with the new Unitary Authority.

Egger specifically noted the statement tabled by the Sandhoe Community as requested by Peter Rodger of the SC.

Egger had looked carefully at the possibility of a sedum roof for the building but have been advised that the costs that a change to a sedum roof would entail would exceed £1,000,000 rendering the option unaffordable. The locating  of the pipe that carries waste has been examined and it transpires that it cannot be buried on account of the  environmental regulatory body not welcoming any such burial if it carries, as here, the risk of groundwater contamination if a leak were to develop. The height of the pipe above ground level is dictated by the height of the vehicles that need to pass under it, plus a safety margin.

6 Date and time of next meeting
